Hand Dancing For Jesus
Trudy Sands, the singer, turned the mic to me and said, "Scotty would you come
on stage and tell the people why you just danced on your hands?"
I remember how a boldness hit me and with love pouring all over me, I said;
And then I shut up and didn't say another word as the whole bar was
quietly waiting. Waiting for me to say more.
As I waited in front of a bewildered, drunken crowd of about 350 souls,
the Lord prompted me to point to a stranger and say to him and his date,
"The Lord just said he wants to bless your marriage if you'll follow
him!"
They looked dumbfounded. I had no way of knowing it but that particular
couple was there in celebration of their pending marriage, along with
their many friends.
I thanked the crowd and turned the mic back over to the singer. The crowd
responded with loud clapping, with hoops and hollows of approval. I
spoke to a few, including the engaged couple, and they expressed their
thanks with reverence, and invited me to their wedding, which I attended
and was able to minister to them further.
They made a commitment to God and quit the bar scene. At last contact,
they were serving the Lord in a fine church.
There after, I began dancing on my hands to church youth groups, public
school assemblies, and a community dance contest at a gym in Spring Hill La,
in the town where I met my wife.
As I used that avenue for the Lord, souls were moved by my testimony and
his love. I even won a trophy, and was eventually hired to perform on,
Thursdays, Friday, and Saturdays at one of Houston's largest disco clubs,
named Uncle Sam's. Their introduction for my performance was, "Folks,
Butch Cassidy is not here but we do have the Hand Dance Kid! Take it away
Scotty!"
It was there where I met Larry McCarthy and his wife, son and daughter in
law of a South Houston multimillionaire.
I was invited to their home where Larry and his wife heard the word of
God and were saved. They had been heavily involved in drinking and pot
smoking. They dubbed me with their preferred nick name, "Rev. Hand
Dancer."
Take what opportunities the Lord gives to you folks, and see what the
Lord will spring from it!
I must say, you may never be called to be upside down with the spinning
disco lights in the middle of a dance floor to Rod Steward's, "Hot Legs"
as 500 people are cheering you on, but surely opportunities await us all,
however strange they may seem.
