THE
SIZE OF HIS CROSS
It
was splintered and tattered,
just one from a forest of trees.
"It must be stout and strong"!,
came the shout from a Centurion.
"It
must hold the weight
of that one from Galilee!
Make no mistake!
Measure it's cubic degree"!
The
workmen of the Roman crew
measured the width and height
on the tree to be used
for the one called, "The Christ".
And
hewed they down
that old rugged tree,
stout and strong,
measured by degree!
And embraced they it,
into their arms,
and laid it at his feet.
The
hammer fell
upon the nails,
deep into the tree.
But it was love that held
the weight of the man.
That one from Galilee!
It
was splintered and tattered,
just one from a forest of trees.
And it is still stout and strong;
but now without degree
is the size of his cross
that expresses His love
when one kneels at Calvary!
