A carpenter held some nails and with a hammer in
hand he wondered, 'If these nails could speak, what would they say?"
And in an echo it was heard, "We're holding up your house
for you and your loved ones who will inherit it one day!"
A artist held some nails and with a hammer in hand he wondered, "If these nails could speak,
what would they say?"
And in an echo it was heard,
"We're holding up your paintings for you and your loved ones to enjoy them each day!"
A Pastor held some nails and with a hammer in hand he wondered, "If these nails
could speak, what would they say?"
And in an echo it was heard,
"We're holding up your altar for you and your loved ones to have a place to pray!"
A Roman soldier held some nails and with a hammer in hand he wondered,
"If these nails could speak, what would they say?"
And in an echo it was heard,
"We can not hold him up there, though pounded by you into his flesh to wood,
how ever hard you may!"
For if those nails could speak they would say; "We three can testify!
We did not hold him up there! But his love held us in, for you and your loved ones,
and for all the world's sins!
Had we pried loose
he'd hung in mid air for you friend! Because in truth, tis not our strength
that held him there!
It was His love for you!"
"An altar is a place in the midst of busy schedules and pressures where one presses into
prayer with God, where nothing else matters in those moments except the sweet presence of
the Lord; where the sacrifice of all ambitions and worth are placed in his hands
for guidance and the treasures of the heart at his feet!"
