A man stood praying
in a religious kind of way
and God stopped him in his plea
and had this to say:
"If you were God and I were thee
praying unto you as you do to me
would you be pleased or dismayed
with how you prayed?"
He paused in his thoughts
thinking of all he had said;
was he praying from his heart
or only from his head?
"God, I think I understand.
If I were you and you were me
I would not receive your pleas
if you were praying unto me
as I have done to Thee."
and he fell upon his knees
and humbly cried aloud
"Lord if I were Thee
I'd forgive you. Please forgive me?"
"Tis true! You would
if you were me!
Now your heart speaks truth
and I am pleased!"
Would you be pleased with your prayers?
Would you even want to listen to them?
God looks on the inward heart.
What would you see in you if you were Him?
